Pickets Continued

We spent Friday and Saturday night at the cabin. Saturday and Sunday we worked towards trying to get the lower half of the cabin clad in pickets.  The electrical outlets, windows, and door were easier to work around than we first assumed.  The biggest challenge to this project is making sure that you are moving the material in an efficient manor.  Having Alaina on the chop saw outside was a huge time saver.  It has its gaps and flaws, but that is what old wood does.  Regardless, it sure is easy to attach stuff to the walls.

Reclaimed Pickets

We decided back in July to line the inside of the cabin with old fence pickets.  We didn't have time to do anything with it at the time and some pickets we found from a neighbor turned out to be a bust because they were pre-assembled panels that would not come apart without breaking the picket.

A friend told us about their neighbor who lost their fence in a recent wind storm and said we could have it.   We picked it up on Saturday started taking it apart on Sunday morning and by 2:00 we had one end cut and ready to install.  The owner built the fence himself years ago and we only lost about 10 pickets out of what we were given.   Looks like we got about 220 pickets out of the work we did.  We are painting a few of them just to give a different look and add a little color.

Burned out 5 stumps too!

Outside Finished and Ceiling in

We got quit a bit done this weekend.  After years of waiting I finally found a ladder to borrow and finish out the top of the cabins tin work.  While we had it we installed some cheap siding and insulation in the ceiling from Home Depot.  The free bee french doors were trimmed off left and right and with some spray on glass frosting got installed to their permeant place.

New Toilet, Shelf and French Doors - For Free!

A house down the street was purging out their garage.  All kinds of new lumber, furniture, and miscellaneous items were being thrown out.  It was crazy!  I picked up a set of french doors, lumber to build a temporary self and backer board for a needed toilet tank top.  The toilet was spotted by Alaina on the access road to I-30 and was in perfect condition other than a missing top.  It uses less water and flush much better than the one we had.
